July 1st Sales and Use Tax Increase in Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles County voters approved a 0.5% sales and use tax which will take effect July 1, 2009.  The tax rate within Los Angeles County will increase from 9.25% to 9.75%.  Five cities within Los Angeles County will also have a 0.5% tax increase.  Avalon City, El Monte, and Inglewood will increase to 10.25%.  Pico Rivera and South Gate will increase to 10.75%.  You can find more information in the recently published Tax Information Bulletin.

We have medical offices in Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes and Culver City, CA, are there areas subject to the increase sales tax starting 7/1/09?

Effective July 1, 2009, the sales and use tax rate in Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes, and Culver City will be 9.75%.
