I am excited to launch my new Sales & Use Tax Forum. I look forward to using this blog as a place to comment on trends and topics as I see them with the hopes of getting your thoughts and feedback.
A quick introduction of myself, I am the VP of Tax Research & Content for Sabrix, part of Thomson Reuters. In my capacity I oversee a division of tax experts that research tax laws on a global basis and work with our customers to help them achieve compliance. In this role I have the opportunity to get direct feedback from customers and engage in a variety of professional forums. I hope to use these inputs to drive engaging conversation on tax trends and discuss challenges around achieving compliance – including understanding nexus, forming tax policy, tax rate research and of course the inevitable audits and more.

New York, August 4, 2010 – The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters today announced findings from a recent Sabrix survey on the impact a value added tax (VAT) would have on American businesses. The majority of executives polled are against VAT and agree that it would significantly increase the cost of compliance.

New York, July 26, 2010 – The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters today announced the latest Sabrix report on changes to state and local sales and use tax codes. There were a total of 131 changes with 91.6 percent of them being increases or new taxes.
The Sabrix report correlates data from the U.S. Census Bureau, “
Quarterly Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue,” June 29, 2010 revealing that state sales tax revenue increased for the first time in six quarters, growing by 0.3 percent indicating continued reliance on sales and use tax to address government deficits.
